General information
Daya Nueva is a small municipality of about 2.000 inhabitants, located to the southeast of the province of Alicante, in the Region of Bajo Segura, with an altitude of 9 m.s.n.m that occupies an area of 7.2 km2 and a distance of 44 km. Of Alicante and 196 of Valencia.
It is located in a privileged enclave, in the center of said Comarca, only 12 km. of the coast.
The municipal term is crossed by the AP-7 (Autopista Alicante-Cartagena), reason why it is especially well communicated with both the capital and with the airport, the coast, Hospital de la Vega Baja, etc.

It is a tracta of a traditional irrigated area, with its main agricultural resources, but it is completely enveloped in its garden, among its principal crops citrus, carcasses and patates. The moble industry has been linked to the construction of the industrial estate of the municipality, which competes with an industrial estate “La Fàbrica” with a surface area of 60,000 m2, which is directly linked to the AP-7 motorway, Alacant-Cartagena.

History
The name comes to Daya of its Arab origin and means “small depression closed”. Like most of the localities of the region, it belonged to the Realengo Oriolano until the middle of century XII. What began as a mudéjar aljama in the middle of this century, will end up being, after several conjunctures and hereditary successions, barony under the dominion of the Marquises of Two Waters.
In February 1974 an unusual event occurs in the whole region, as was the annexation of Puebla de Rocamora, an adjoining municipality whose population center was just over 1 km. From the center of Daya Nueva.
